i missed the highland fling. i was pretty pissed off to say the least. the server crashed when i attempted to log-in rnd 1 and then rnd 2 when it was reset i had a meeting and even though i had the rego loaded on my screen i just had to go. needless to say when i returned it was totally sold out.
i have had me ear to the ground trying my hardest to find an entry. then ben from BMU notified me of an entry that came up on rotoburn. it had been a while since the post but i thought i would give it a go and pm the member to see if the entry was still available.
it was a pretty simple pm. hey mate, do you still have the entry, if so i will take if off your hands – hope your feeling better and the shoulder is ok.
the was the thing. john [whom i now know] had been on the fling course and come down really heavily broken his collar bone. he had explained this on the forum but i was totally surprised to hear him tell me that he had already had about 5 or 6 inquiries about the entry. no one had ever asked him about his shoulder [except me] and most had wanted the ticket at a reduced price from its original purchase price.
he was pretty annoyed at them all then i came along. you can obviously guess the out come. he was really happy with the fact i had just asked about his collar bone so that was enough for him to transfer the entry to me – obviously i was totally willing to pay the full cost -
the whole thing had me thinking tonight on the train about how willy wonker it was. searching for the golden ticket, finding it, then handing back the everlasting gobstopper which put me across the line.
so… i have an entry to the 2009 highland fling mtb race in bundanoon. its not meant to be as torturous as the angry doctor. all this means is training time.
so what am i targeting as a finish time… [cards held to my chest atm]
another good thing is my category this time is masters 30-39yrs not 18-39
last year as a man – next year its an old bastard!
