WSMTB Rnd 6 – years end

Your never happy with your results. I think even if i had won i would still be looking skyward questioning what and how i could have won even better.
Today was the final points round for the club race. i knew going into the rnd i was going to have to put in a super hero effort if i was to move up to a podium finish for the season. Sitting in 6th place overall i was pretty unhappy with my current placing. Consistency is the only reason i was sitting in 6th – and that consistency isn’t speed, its more turning up and pedaling.
To compound the issue i had a big night out on friday with work. i haven’t been out for a while and pretty much haven’t drunk anything either so come saturday morning i was in a world of pain. dehydrated and with a splitting headache the day dragged on. i fell asleep on the lounge twice which is so not like me. i went to bed too late [so me] but i did sleep like a log.
I arrived at yellomundee feeling not to bad considering but i wasn’t 100% pumped. I prepped, watched the boys race, warmed up and lined up. Still feeling good i took off and by the first single track i was in about 6/7th wheel. The first climb i watched bourkey just motor away like a man possessed. It blew me away to see his pace as he climbed and turned into the garden of Edan. My first lap was weird. i was pretty much holding the front runners and i honestly didn’t feel as though i was pushing too hard but still with the likes of Aub in sight was pretty exciting.
Second lap i dropped right off. Were talking 1:20 longer for the lap which can only mean i did go out to hard first up. I think this may have caused me to not fully recover for most of the race. My third lap was quicker than my 2nd and the last was slowest of all. Thinking back now i know i could have pushed more the last lap. Churchy caught and over took me which i was pretty devo’d about.
I crossed the line in 1:21:20 which placed me in 9th on the day. Again, disappointed – i was really hoping to finish about 6th and to do so i had to be 2 minutes quicker over all. I spoke with bourkey after the race and he gave me some great pointers for training which i am going to take on board and action asap. His comments made complete sense.
Assessing the series points its pretty sad… if my maths is correct i have finish 4th place overall in B-Grade. I don’t think there is a worse place to finish. the three above me make podium, i will just clap.
Having said that… i have finished the season 4th in B Grade, i the real world, that’s a bloody awesome effort no matter how i look at it.
