Scott 24hr 2010

the above amazing images was taken by matt mead More of his coverage from the 24hr can be viewed here
This last weekend saw the 24hrs of Adrenalin in conjunction with the Scott 24hr race at stromlo Canberra. With a yearning to return to stromlo i had the vague thought i may compete this year but it never eventuated. So sadly i had to embrace a digitally enhanced compensation which in complete shock turned out to be a really great experience.
starting at 12:00pm i had bookmarked the live timing updates supplied by online results for both events [they were separated events]. The site had a shocker roll off nav [mac firefox] but apart from that it was flawless. I also happened to stumble upon a vimeo [podcast?] of the even from ozdirtcast. with 4hrish updates it became my visual connection with the event. production wise i was extremely impress, the edits were great, host was good but i guess knowing EXACTLY what it takes to create this kind of digital coverage you can truely appreciate the effort involved.

this year was big as ludenia was going to give his best shot with churchy as pit crew. I know first hand how strong dave is and to see him finish 9th in the Worlds Elite Category is nothing short of legendary. so happy for him considering the quantity of effort he puts in.
i watched keenly as with the first of the days he was sitting in about 12th then up to 10th, then back down again to 13th from memory. i spoke to churchy via twitter and he explained he had double punctured on one of the laps. As i woke to go for my own ride in the morning – he had picked up to 10th again with about 20min? to 9th place. I also was watching the BMU boys who were doing so well in about 34th out of 130! but it turned out they had dropped down a fair few places by the morning and after reading jing’s blog entry today i can understand why. It sounded like that had a pretty hard race.
I’m also really looking forward to matt’s pics … i’m yet to see a bad one from him and read he enjoyed the freedom of just shooting the event.
australian mountain bike has a great video from the event as well. this just makes me feel silly for not racing.
next year – definitely
from a digital experience it was so far the best i have experienced for a MTB event in oz. live feeds of timing is a must [for the biggy events] but the video and twitter network kept me in the loop… or at least i felt as though i was.
