tRAINING

thats where i am – and i’m really proud/happy/excited about it. training is never easy but it seems atm i have all gears running smooth and i am making targets each time as well as adding new efforts into the picture.

the weather has been insane but i haven’t let it really get in the way – although it has taken its toll on the girl. right now she’s in a bit of a state and not rolling very well at all.

for january i only fell short one week – the same week i began full detox which has now been a full month on and like training i am still running strong.

these new extra efforts have been over and above the riding schedule and that is what i think is really going to make the difference from previous years. adding into the picture have been stretching which is returning to what i was doing a few years ago and a new effort, swimming. as much as i am not a swimmer its been an eye opener and actually enjoyable.

pooling

it allows me to add an extra 1hr per week into the mix and as cross training it is improving my upper body, core and cardio. it can be completed in any weather and at lunch. i started at victoria park pool but now have purchased a 20 pass for ian thorpe. a couple of other guys from work are into it as well which helped me increase my effort and pace. at first it was only doing about 600m – then 800m now i am getting in a full 1km in 30min or just under. at the end of 30min i am pretty spent but not my legs its all cardio and upper body. along with the stretching i am hoping really hoping in the next few race the results will show.

the plains

the usual local rides are still perfect for specifics like strength and AT improvement and just outright punishment rides along with the crits [i'll talk about them shortly] i have a new found enthusiasm. another grind today al-be-it commencing in rain, its good to have the pains back in my legs all day… it means i am on target.

the girl ... one morning

so this week we spent as much time as possible at the entrance before having to return home because K is working 3 days. each day [except friday] i was out riding from 6:00am riding the local loop. by the thursday i had extended it to a perfect 60km circuit that is comfortable, feels reasonably safe and most of all enjoyable.

i had a couple of attempts at the KOM on wilfred and moved from 19th overall to 4th. we are returning next week and i am hoping the weather will hold out so i can give it one last proper attempt. im hoping to move into third place overall

on top of the riding i was also going to the beach and swimming, helping the boys catch waves on the boogie board etc so its been a pretty massive week in total. the knee held up really well till friday when i was in the surf – it started to have a smaller ache again but it is more a water issue than bike. holidays have been awesome with the weather being semi kind most days although lots of the mornings it rained so i would return home after the ride filthy dirty

lachlans class did a bollywood style end of year concert dance. i decided to use both the H1 and canon to capture the dance.
i’m happy with the results – i recorded an interview with lach then edited it together. still learning about the H1 and canon but there is so much potential

[warning - this is going to be a potty mouth post]
yep, its now official. after 2 days of 4-7hours of only painting, well basic walking around on my knee is just fucked. totally fucken fucked and i am so pissed off about it.
the click in it is just bullshit loud. it aches, won’t move, is stiff, hurts
farken hell!!!!

i didn’t really do that much work today. like – my right leg isn’t even close to being tired.

basically two weeks ago at PT on the monday i was doing some more cross-fit style of excercise when it went to the shitter. we were bear walking in reverse [basically this] with sit ups thrown into the session. after the 5 x work out we were then going to jog over and across the walkway bridge.
i started to jog and then all of a sudden my left knee had a massive sharp pain. i stopped, walked a few steps and tried to jog again only to have the same pain.
i gave up on jogging then did a bit of core work.
by the time i got up the next day it was totally fucked. slightly swollen, super sore and i couldn’t really walk up or down stairs. FAAARRRKKKEN HELL

i went to the physio on wednesday and she said i had damaged either my cartilage or soft tissue under the knee.

i haven’t ridden or done anything strenuous at all for two weeks now and have been back to the physio as well. over this long weekend i have been painting. thats about it. nothing major – no riding, no lifting, just walking and normal movements.

its so sore now and i am so pissed off about it all its hard to describe upset i am. i guess its because i really feel this isn’t a little injury. its going to take a long time to mend. a very long time.

with this much pain i won’t be doing the fling. i have already sold my entry.

FARK – FARK – FARK!
back to the physio on wednesday but its looking more like i am going to have to do more than just physio.

as for riding a bike, thats probably not going to happen until next year i seriously feel right now.
