i have always wanted to do a run at a velodrome. i know that dunc grey does allow you to hire it out much the same as a mtb hire place, or a go-kart venue. after a bit of enquiry a while back i worked out it wasn’t the cheapest but the main issue, like most of my riding is going solo. i don’t really want a full tilt lesson, just a few quick pointers then a wrap around until the legs gave way.
there is something about traveling as fast as you can on a purpose built banked cornered track that appeals to me and after seeing the above video i think it may because it is very much like go-kart racing. i really miss the kart racing, although it was only a short stint for my racing career, i loved every second of it.
the reason for all this, i had a strange flickr friend request today. swobo clothing. i was pretty excited. i have much respect for their clothes both urban style and riding apparel. after visiting the site and doing a run around links etc i came across the track cam video.
i first though cyclocross was a little bizarre. it seemed to be some kind of off season makeup game. but looking at this video i think i am starting to understand its appeal. i really like the fact it very often takes place in mud and on bikes that are just not really “design” so to speak for mud. i know they are running treaded tires but on 700c rims? seemed odd but again after watching this i can really see its appeal.
i tend to try and not take carbo out during rain as he is a race machine, thats not to say i won’t race in the rain, actually quiet the opposite, i would love to pin it in the mud … it would be lots and lots of fun.
the other good thing about this particular race is you can see pretty much the entire track from a slightly elevated position. i will post another link in the next couple of days. it has some of the best photography i have seen in a while… all cyclocross. its very rapha
well it is on. in the morning i will be going down and putting a deposit on this bike. probably the most exciting thing i have done in a very very long time. building tarini was very close to the please i am feeling now but the whole concept of purchasing a bike that is total geared for racing is so damn exciting. shamefully i can’t get it before stromlo this weekend but i am going to really appreciate my last race with scottie. he has been a true gentleman and with a little bit of hope he may be able to stay within the family… but probably not. he would be cool as a single speed… ha! maybe botunfortunately i am not quiet as prepared as i would like to be for the race. i am sick, but not tooooo bad. i haven’t put enough kms into the bike this week but i know i will still be OK?!?! i am really looking forward to the race
what a great day, jason, mick, nick thanks out of 251 rides in veterans [30-39] i place 109th. i am quiet sore but just loved it. nuff said. im hooked! blown away by nick and jason, nick pulled 26th in our class, and jason i think 26th in his. amazing!
so the XT front derailluer arrived but i just couldn’t really put it on successfully. its hard to work under the stairs at home with no stand and seriously bad lighting. i did install it but have dropped him off at blackmans to have it adjusted properly. speaking of blackmans i had a chat to them and it is looking like it may be the go to redesign their site and a contra for a bike is the plan. maybe this bike??? the puch sold so i brought 3 gels and set of leg warmers. probably should have used the money to get a full tilt service on scottie but he’s going to have to wait.
